If you’d like to try making your own non-toxic homemade glass cleaner to remove streaks, fingerprints, excess dirt and grime, then try the following formula:

  • ½ cup rubbing alcohol or cheap vodka
  • ½ cup of white vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 10 drops preferred essential oil

Add the rubbing alcohol (or vodka) and vinegar to a spray bottle and mix well. Then add the vinegar and mix again. Finally add your preferred essential oils. Some delectable smelling combinations include:

  • 5 drops lemon oil + 5 drops basil oil
  • 6 drops lemon oil + 4 drops lavender oil
  • 4 drops lime oil + 4 drops lavender oil + 2 drops basil spearmint
  • 5 drops cedarwood oil + 5 drops pine oil
  • 6 drops orange oil + 2 drops clove oil + 2 drops cinnamon oil
  • 10 drops citrus oil

Experiment with it. Find your own signature scent. Mess around, some may end up stinking, others may end up blessing your nostrils and olfactory signals.

For heavy duty glass cleaning like outdoor windows with longstanding grime, it may be necessary to amp things up a bit. Find a squeegee and a bucket and fill it with:

  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 gallon of hot water
  • 1 teaspoon dish soap
  • 20 drops preferred essential oil (scent will not last for long if outside)
